World Youth Day - Madrid 2011 Rooted and built up in Jesus
Christ, firm in the faith
(cf
Col. 2:7)
Pope Benedict XVI has announced the
themes for the next three World Youth Days in order to help young Catholics better prepare
for the next international gathering in Madrid in 2011.
Another characteristic of the Madrid World Youth Day will be
networks. For the first time, we are going to have a World Youth Day
in which really the fundamental means of communication will be the
Internet, the social networks, not only as information but also as
communication, to create communities. In Sydney, this already began,
but I think this is going to be the explosion. - Santiago de la
Cierva interviewed by

In a letter to clergy for the Year for Priests, Boston Cardinal
Sean O'Malley has called for a return to the ancient theology of the
presbyterate as an "intimate sacramental brotherhood" with a
"corporate sense of priestly identity".
The Vatican Congregation for the Clergy has announced that Pope
Benedict plans to close the Year for Priests by inviting every
Catholic priest to join him in Rome from June 9-11 2010.
The Vatican Observatory is launching its own iPhone app,
targeting the world's 1.5 billion Catholics. The move
follows Pope Benedict's recent encouragement to reach people
worldwide through new technology.
The official Australian pilgrimage tour agency has been
inundated with calls from people wanting passes to attend the
canonisation of Mary MacKillop in Rome later this year.
Christians and other faith leaders have criticised the
speculative excess and greed that led to the GFC. American
writer Jim Wallis calls for a new normal of biblical values
that include broad themes like Enough is enough and Were in
it together.
The new Vatican Yearbook shows that the number of Catholics as a
percentage of the worldwide faithful is growing slightly and the
number of priests is also growing, while the number of religious
sisters is falling.
Actors receive Oscars, scientists get Nobel Prizes,
but outstanding people of faith remain largely unnoticed. That
is why the canonisation of Mary MacKillop will be welcomed by
Australians, whatever their faith or lack of it, writes Rachael
Kohn.

Sacro Song 3 was one of the more striking releases of 2009. Rap
is not a genre always associated with affirmative messages and
it is especially startling to hear it being used as a means of
spreading the gospel.
Before I invested in the iTunes Universalis program, I used to
have to carry my heavy Book of Christian Payer whenever I
travelled. Now all of the prayers I ever need can be found in my
own little 32 gigabytes of heaven.
Thinking Faith is the online journal of the British Jesuits. It
contains writing and commentary on everything from church
rituals to human rights There is also a broad range of book

Mary MacKillop will become Australia's first recognised saint on
Sunday, October 17, after Pope Benedict XVI announced the date
of her canonisation overnight in Rome.
Australian Catholics were jubilant last night at the Vatican's
announcement that Mary MacKillop has become the nation's first
saint. A ''deeply pleased'' Melbourne Archbishop Denis Hart said
St Mary was a woman of holiness.
Prime Minister Kevin Rudd says MacKillop sainthood is "a great,
great tribute to the Catholic church and a great, great tribute
to her hard work in education".
Australia's Sister Maria Casey, who led Mary MacKillop's
sainthood campaign, was among those who attended last night's
historic meeting in Rome. "It's a rare privilege indeed,'' she
said.
