St Thomas More Catholic Parish

Our parish is very active with a large number of groups servicing the parish and wider community.  Following is a list and description of all the groups in the parish.

Faith Serving Groups, Liturgy & Music, Prayer Groups, Social Groups, Apostolic Groups, Youth Groups, Morecare

Faith Serving Groups

ADULT FAITH EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Is responsible for planning and co-ordinating adult faith education within our parish community.  Email.

BAPTISMAL TEAM
Meets with new parents to explain the rite of baptism and offer support as the parents prepare for the celebration.  Email.

RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR CHILDREN
Provide Religious Education to our parish children IN YEARS 1-7 not attending Catholic Schools, each Wednesday afternoon between 4 and 5pm.

LIBRARY GROUP
Assist with borrowing (w/end Masses) or helping when required with book covering, computer entries etc.

QUARTERLY MEN'S BREAKFAST
A male guest speaker will be invited to the breakfast providing an opportunity to listen and learn from present day mentors and role models.  Email.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF ADULTS (R.C.I.A.) CORE GROUP
Meets regularly to implement the programme in our parish. The R.C.I.A. programme itself is a process for receiving adults into full communion with the Catholic Church. Email.

RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION OF YOUTH (R.C.I.Y.) CORE GROUP
This is for young people up to the age of 16 to be received into the Catholic Church.  Email.

Liturgy & Music

LITURGY COMMITTEE
Reflects on and plans for our Liturgies throughout the Liturgical Calendar.

CREATIVE LITURGY TEAM
Young and old come together to share ideas, highlight the theme of the gospel, and other liturgical celebrations, through visual symbol in our church.

MASS GREETERS
Welcome members of our community to the Sunday Liturgy and distribute the bulletin.

MUSIC MINISTRY
Leads our community in sung prayer at all Masses except the Youth Mass. Musicians and singers are committed to attending a practice on the
2nd Tuesday of each month, commencing at 7.30pm.

YOUTH MASS - MUSIC MINISTRY
Provide music for our 6.00pm Sunday evening Youth Mass and other events.  They rehearse weekly.

CHILDREN'S LITURGY OF THE WORD
Catechists assist with providing Liturgy of the Word to students in Pre-Primary to Year 6 at 5.30pm Mass on Saturday and 9.30am Mass each Sunday.  Lesson plans provided.

READERS MINISTRY
The Readers Ministry prepares for proclamation of the Word at Mass.  Those rostered to proclaim the Word each weekend attend a preparation session of the Tuesday evening prior to their rostered Mass.  This preparation includes contemplation & discussion of all readings for that weekend.  

FLOWER ROSTER GROUP
Helps with arranging flowers for weekend Mass and special liturgies.

SACRISTAN COMMITTEE
Set up altar for Mass, change altar's drapes and maintain sacristy stock.

 

Prayer Groups

EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament Wednesday 8.30am- 1pm. We invite parishioners to join the roster for one hour.

MEDITATION GROUP
Meets each Monday at 8.30pm for an hour and engages in contemplative prayer as taught by Don John Main OSB.

SUNDAY GOSPEL REFLECTION GROUP
Offers reflection and prayer on Sunday's Gospel.  Meets Friday 8.45am in the church during school term.  Children welcome and regular attendance is not required.

ROSARY DEVOTION TO OUR LADY
Home Rosary Devotions to Our Lady are held in the months of May and October. Anyone interested in having the rosary in their home can nominate a particular date in that month and the parishioners are invited to attend.

SCRIPTURAL ROSARY GROUP
Meets each Tuesday during school term at 8.50am in the church or shrine to say the Rosary with Scriptural reflection. All welcome including children.

THE TRAVELLING CHALICE
The Chalice visits homes for one week and families spend time together to pray for vocations.

Social Groups

CRAFT GROUP
Meets every Tuesday at 12.45pm for friendship and creativity.

MYSTERY DINNERS
A branch of our Social Committee who coordinate home dinners and other entertainment such as mystery tours.

PLAYGROUP
Meets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9.30 - 11.30am (excluding holidays) for parents and children 0-4 years.

SENIORS
Seniors Mass and morning tea is held four times per year to provide friendship and fellowship for seniors.

ACTIVE OVER SIXTIES GROUP
Meets for parish activities and outings approximately one day per month.

SOCIAL COMMITTEE
The Social Committee is the central organisation responsible for the co-ordination of social activities within the parish. Members and helpers required.

FAMILY GROUPS
Groups of approximately eight families meet socially each month.

CHESS CLUB
Opportunities to meet for chess.

Apostolic Groups

PARISH OVERSEAS PARTNERSHIP "POP"
Aims at co-ordinating spiritual and practical support for parishes and groups overseas.

SOCIETY OF ST VINCENT DE PAUL
Serves those who are suffering by offering material or moral support.  Meets each Tuesday evening at 7.30pm.

WELCOMING COMMITTEE
Seek people who are happy to visit new parishioners and welcome them into our community.

MAJELLANS
Is a women's group which meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm for prayer, discussion/speaker and coffee.

MENTAL HEALTH GROUP
Meets at 7.30pm every 4th Wednesday.  The group meets to give support and info to carers of the mentally ill or consumers, however all are welcome. 

SOCIAL JUSTICE GROUP
Meets monthly on the evening
of the 3rd Tuesday of the each month to reflect on Social Justice issues and raise awareness within our community.

EVANGELISATION TEAM
The aim of the group will be to look at drawing up and implementing an evangelisation program in the parish such as Alpha and Cafe.

 

Pastoral

MORECARE
This Parish Pastoral Care Program provides short term emergency help for community members. Parishioners become involved, for a maximum of one year to help with transport, emergency meal, visiting the sick or lonely, emergency housework and baby-sitting.

BEREAVEMENT GROUP
This group provides an opportunity for the bereaved to receive and to give support, begin to think about new directions and to meet socially in a safe place.

PERSONAL ADVOCACY SERVICE
Offers friendship and spiritual support to young adults with special needs.

REFUGEE SUPPORT GROUP
Offering friendship and support to newly arrived refugees.  Bi monthly meetings.

 

Church Maintenance & Technicians

BULLETIN TEAM
Prepare bulletin on a rostered basis.  Need computer skills with word processing/publishing and internet software.

GARDENING GROUP
Busy bees to maintain church grounds are held approximately 3 times per year on Saturday mornings.

LOCKING UP CHURCH FACILITIES
This service has a caretaker role and is required daily and operates on a roster basis.

MUSIC AREA (SOUND TECHNICIAN)
Requires setting up each Saturday afternoon.

PRESBYTERY CLEANING
Cleaning of Presbytery and offices takes place each Thursday morning.  We welcome you to our roster.

 

Youth

YOUTH MINISTRY TEAM
The Youth Team is a group of young people who support the youth office in thinking of ideas and running events.  The members range from high school students to young adults.  Meetings are held monthly.  email.

11-14 YEAR OLDS
Social events held every 8 weeks for this age group such as Q-zar, Time zone, games, movies and camps.  Run by Young Adult leaders.

15-17s SOCIAL EVENTS
Social events for this age group include Dark Zone, bowling, Sport and movies.  These events are organised by young people themselves with the assistance of the Youth Team.

YOUNG ADULT DINNERS
Dinners held every 6-8 weeks at local restaurants.  Provides an opportunity for adults aged 18 to 30 to socialise.

YOUTH DRAMA GROUP
Group of young people who perform drama at the Youth Mass or at other forums.  The roup has wide diversity of ages.

WORLD YOUTH DAY PILGRIMAGE
This group of young people are preparing to go to Cologne in Germany for the 2005 World Youth Day.  New members welcome.

YOUNG VINNIES
This is a St Vincent de Paul group for young people.  The group in involved in fundraising, volunteer work and public awareness of social justice issues.  Email.

BATEMAN CAFE
The Youth Office runs a cafe after some Youth Masses selling hot food and drinks.  Young people run the cafe and proceeds fund youth events.

BIBLE STUDY AND REFLECTION GROUP
This group meets regularly to reflect on the Gospel and contemporary issues.  These sessions are either run by the Youth Workers or in conjunction with the adult faith education programmes.

YOUNG CHARISMATIC GROUP
This is a group that is planned to start in 2004.  It will be a charismatic prayer group for young people.

MUSIC JAM SESSIONS
This group meets with Fr Dat during the week to play modern music and perform at some youth events.

ENGLISH CLASSES FOR YOUNG ADULTS
Free conversational English classes are held at the church on Sunday evenings from 5pm-6pm.

 

New Groups

NEWLY MARRIED COUPLES
This group aims to provide community and a social environment to newly married couples seeking to share life as newly weds.

ADULT HELPERS FOR YOUTH CHARISMATIC PRAYER GROUP
This is a group that will provide support and leadership for the Youth Charismatic Prayer Group.
